UNIT: The Westward Expansion
TODAY'S ASSIGNMENT
As Westward Expansion continued during the 19th century, various groups converged in Oregon. The Native Americans were already there when other ethnic groups arrived. Euro-Americans and African Americans arrived from the Midwest states, and from the South. But what about the Asian immigrants from the Far East (or should Oregonians say Far West?)
Chinese laborers came to Oregon to work on railroad construction by the thousands in the 1860s and 1870s. How were they accepted by the majority population? What do you think?
